Mind map of our target audience

Mind map of our target audience

We are primarily aiming our movie at the age group of 15 year olds, this is down to us believing that our movie would best appal to this audience due to the content we wish to create compared with the criteria of the 15 year old certification. Here is the list of the criteria of which we are allowed to go by when creating a movie for people of the age of 15 and above:

·         strong violence

·         frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').

·         portrayals of sexual activity

·         strong verbal references to sex

·         sexual nudity

·         brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence

·         discriminatory language or behaviour

·         drug taking

We believe that our movie will follow these guidelines when creating our movie, making sure that we do not stray from these specific rules so that our movie can be a success with that age group, as if we include content that is not in the age 15 category, then there is a less chance of our movie being less of a success.

We are predominantly aiming at the male audience, this is due to the extensive research that we have conducted around the comedy genre and also movies that are quite similar in respect to the content, such as ‘Run, fatboy run’ and also ‘Shaun of the Dead’. We have found out that the male audience is more attracted to this kind of content and therefore, we will be mainly aiming our movie at the male audience by including male characters inside of a pub and also, the whole storyline, about football, of which the female audience would be less attracted to, due to the connotations of the game of football. Although there is female football, these are the exception, as some females may be interested in the sport activities that take place in the movie.

Another reason for making the movie appeal to the male audience is that we are going to include various female characters, which will ensure that the audience we aim for is male, this is due to the ‘male gaze theory’ by Laura Mulvey. The theory suggests the different views of the female body to entice the male audience, of which we hope to create so that we have a more directed audience and so that it makes the audience more attracted to our movie.
